From spring 2016:Introducing "Aria Rising"
Mannequin 2016! In a surprising turn of events, our merchant partner, "Angel Band Project" fell in love with our mannequin and wanted to buy it and use it at many of their future events! Because of this development we withdrew from Mannequins on the Loop 2016 and are very excited about the future of "Aria Rising." Angel Band Project is a national charity that uses music therapy in the support of victims of domestic and sexual abuse. "Aria Rising" is made entirely of recycled and repurposed materials most notably aluminum blinds and white plastic tubes. Though she has no arms, her wings, prominent and beautiful, give her a presence of strength and stability. Evident in the patterns and texture of the dress she seems to be swirling and rising, about to take flight. The use of recycled materials brings beauty out of abandonment and brokenness as it reflects also the process of healing and of hope. I look forward to sharing more pictures with you as she participates in many events in the future! This project has been a partnership with Divinemoira Studio and the designers and artists S. Jewell S. McGhee, Megan Hutt, and Erin McGrath Reike. |
